Signal has increased the maximum number of participants in group calls from 50 to 75. We discovered this on a recently updated Signal support page and in Signal’s description in the Microsoft Store.
With Signal, you can now make secure voice and video calls with up to 74 other people at the same time. This makes Signal even more suitable for online meetings and presentations.
At the moment, the change is only visible on the English-language support page. This suggests that the update was implemented recently and has not yet been processed by Signal’s translators.
Update 02/09/2026: We’ve reached out to Signal, and they confirmed the new call limit of 75 participants has been implemented on all platforms and is available to all users.
Signal as a secure alternative to Zoom and Teams
Unlike popular meeting apps such as Zoom and Teams, (video) calls on Signal are end-to-end encrypted by default. This means that no one other than the participants can watch or listen in, which is especially important for private conversations or confidential business information.
In addition, Signal offers nearly everything that Zoom and Teams do: call links, screen sharing, raising hands, and emoji reactions. You can join group calls from your Android phone, iPhone, or via Signal Desktop. Signal Desktop is available for Windows, Linux, and macOS.
With the increase from 50 to 75 participants, Signal becomes even more suitable as a secure alternative to Zoom or Teams for safe voice and video calls with friends, family, or colleagues.
